Boasting ‘The Best Seat on the Beach', the Alex Surf Club continues to set the standard for Surf Clubs around the country. Recently voted the Best Surf Club in Queensland, and the Best Supporter's Club in QLD (again!), Alex is a fantastic place for locals and visitors to the Sunshine Coast and our Member benefits just keep getting better.

As an employer of over 70 locals, and a tireless supporter of local community groups and charities, the Alex Surf Club makes a huge contribution to the lives of thousands of people – here on the Sunshine Coast and beyond.

History
Alexandra Headland is well known today as a magnet for holiday makers, and in many ways it was tourism that played a key role in the establishment of the Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club.

Back in the early 1900s, a number of families from the Woombye region built holiday homes along the stretch of beach we now know as ‘Alex'. Realising the importance of protecting their own families in the surf, and other holiday makers who were also discovering this sometimes treacherous stretch of coastline - a group of young men broke away from the Mooloolaba Surf Club in 1924 and formed the Alexandra Headland Surf Life Saving Club.

The original Clubhouse was pre-cut at Woombye, and transported to the site where the Club still stands today. Members spent their weekends building the Clubhouse, sleeping under the trees on the beach until it was finished and ready for the official opening in front of a huge crowd on the beach on December 27, 1924.

Now with over 11,500 members, a state-of-the art clubhouse, and a very proud tradition of sporting excellence and service to the community, the Alex Surf Club of the twenty-first century has no doubt far exceeded the expectations of our Foundation Members. With the passing of time, it's nice to know that the spirit of community service that drove those early members so many years ago is still very much alive at the Alex Surf Club today.
